Stop The Deportation of Haitians!

Richard S. Dunn – September 21, 2021

Once again another hoax has been perpetrated on Black people through the Democratic Party as a collective and certain Black elected officials and wannabees. Joe Biden and the Democratic Party would not have won the 2020 Presidential Election without the ‘Black vote’ period; Black people came out in droves not just to defeat Donald Trump but, they naively believed Biden was their savior. The current refugee crisis at the US-Mexico border is a blaring example of another betrayal by the Party and some of its representatives. During his campaign, Biden promised a more humane and understanding approach to immigration issues.

Reports estimate that approximately 15,000 Haitian asylum seekers are living in a make-shift camp under the Del Rio International Bridge at the US-Mexico border; access to food, water and sanitary facilities are accessible only on the Mexican side of the border. On Sunday September 19, three flights took hundreds of Haitians back to Haiti. This action on the part of the Biden Administration is grossly immoral and should be considered a crime against humanity, where is the humane and understanding approach to this crisis. A considerable number of the refugees are women some pregnant, and children. At this writing there are reports that Border Patrol guards on horseback are whipping asylum seekers at the camp. This situation again bespeaks to the fact that the United States is in no moral or ideological position to criticize any government about Human Rights abuses and treating people with humanity and compassion.

To their credit Congresswomen Ayanna Pressley (MA) and Nydia Velazquez (NY) spearheaded a letter to the Administration, calling on them to immediately stop the Haitian deportation; fifty-four other members signed in agreement with the Proposals outlined in the letter. At the same time where are the other Black elected officials and candidates seeking elected office; where are the Black Talk Show Hosts and where are the leaders and representatives we saw and heard from so prominently just a year ago. Where are the demonstrations and protests, the marches and public outcry? Some seekers of electoral office have aligned themselves with ‘big money,’ so they are afraid of taking a principled and forceful stand, in defense of their own people. The people of Haiti are of African descent; the people of Haiti are our brothers and sisters; we share a common heritage, culture, and origin. The people of Haiti established the first Black republic in the Western Hemisphere; they deserve our unconditional solidarity.

When will Black people begin to take a critical and objective look at their fanatical obsession and allegiance to the Democratic Party which has continually use them as cannon fodder to further their political careers and, have kept in place the perpetual hoax of pretending to be friends of Black people and care about their condition?

Returning these people to Haiti is unjust and a social and human tragedy. In recent years Haiti has experienced two earthquakes, the first they have not fully recovered from; two hurricanes; continued chaos and civil unrest including the assassination of the Country’s President and an unabated Pandemic. There is no governmental leadership  and organization currently in Haiti; corruption and thugs have overtaken the Country, sending people back to such a situation is downright evil and immoral and a callous lack of concern for human lives. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization has reported that approximately 980,000 Haitians in the areas most affected by the recent earthquake, faces severe food insecurity; this along with the other catastrophic socio-economic conditions, is a guaranteed recipe for national collapse.

Had it not been for the United States’ direct intervention in the destabilization and overthrow of the democratically elected President Jean-Bertrand Aristide; Haiti would be in a much better socio-economic position today. This is all the more reason the Biden Administration’s Policy on Haiti is treachery, racist and a continuation of the ‘empire’ mentality heightened under the Trump Administration. If the Biden Administration is sincere in fulfilling its campaign promise and reverse the ‘empire’ immigration Policies of the Trump Administration; it must immediately put an end to the  deportation of Haitians; offer direct assistance to those at the border camp by providing social services, food, and health care; expedite the processing of immigrant visa  Applicants who have already filed and offer Amnesty to those already in the country.

Haiti have suffered far too much for too long. Natural disasters and intervention especially from France, Canada and the United States have created social and economic turmoil in that Country. Trying to escape such deteriorating conditions and seek asylum elsewhere is logical and expected. The United States must facilitate this process as an obligation since they are the ones complicit in creating the problem. We the people must bring pressure to bear on the Biden Administration through mass action and raising our voices in all possible forums, to stop and reverse this deplorable and unjust Policy.
